eDiscovery and Legal Technology Solutions for Solo Practitioners and Boutique Firms

Small footprint, big cases?

The legal technology landscape is evolving fast — and smaller firms are often left behind. Brightline delivers tailored eDiscovery and legal technology solutions so solo practitioners and boutique firms can focus on what matters most: client advocacy.

Why Solo & Boutique Firms Choose Brightline

I provide end-to-end discovery and litigation support services designed to free attorneys from the minutiae of the modern discovery process. With a decade of experience and recognized expertise in eDiscovery project management, document review, discovery drafting, and litigation support, I work autonomously so you can stay focused on strategy and advocacy.

At Brightline Discovery Consulting, I believe that effective discovery is about more than technology—it’s about people. I provide tailored, human-centered litigation support services that help attorneys navigate modern discovery challenges with confidence. Unlike large, impersonal vendors, I take pride in offering highly personalized service where your priorities come first. I am vendor-neutral, so you can be confident that I will deliver the best solution not just for each firm, but for each client.

My background includes discovery work in high-stakes litigation such as multimillion-dollar construction disputes, first-degree murder cases, complex medical litigation (on both business and malpractice sides), and discovery for a billion-dollar company. This experience gives me a unique perspective on handling discovery in matters where precision, confidentiality, and efficiency are critical.

By combining cutting-edge discovery technology with a personal, attorney-focused approach and creative thinking, I ensure that every project is handled with care, precision, and a commitment to your success.

Why I Started Brightline

In 2016 I began my career working for a then-new boutique law firm with four attorneys and one secretary-paralegal. The footprint was small, but the cases were big. At first our discovery process was almost entirely manual — tens of thousands of pages, countless sticky notes and flags, piles of responsive, non-responsive, privileged, and redaction-needed documents, and many late nights flipping through page after page until our fingertips were bone-dry. As discovery and productions grew larger and larger this manual process became prohibitively time-consuming and mistake-prone. eDiscovery vendors were extraordinarily costly, difficult to coordinate with, and did not offer flexible solutions to smaller firms (and smaller clients).

What I learned: Manual discovery solutions are often sloppy, unprofessional, and highly inflexible to the evolving needs of each matter. Manual solutions also eat up attorney and paralegal time, which means bigger bills for your clients and less actual advocacy to show for it.

Over the years I worked to bring eDiscovery in-house, to provide our attorneys and our clients with solutions tailored to their needs and within the budget of each case. No more complicated, expensive data collection. No more project manager roulette. No more walls of banker boxes stuffed with thousands of pages of production documents, and no more absurd printing bill. Each project had the same project manager – me – from start to finish, ensuring I had a robust knowledge of the issues, the client, and the documents.

Don’t let the rapidly evolving legal technology landscape leave your small firm in the rearview. Brightline Discovery Consulting will help you remain efficient, focused, flexible, and available to meet the litigation needs for cases big and small.

Proven Results

The case examples below are drawn from my more than 10 years leading eDiscovery and litigation support at a boutique firm, where we regularly handled large, complex matters on varying budgets and tight timelines — the exact environment many solo practitioners and boutique firms face today. These real-world projects demonstrate the kinds of tailored, cost-effective solutions I now bring directly to other solo and boutique practices through Brightline.

During my time at the boutique firm, we were engaged on a federal tax fraud defense involving tens of thousands of documents already collected by prior counsel. The external eDiscovery vendor was proposing thousands in project management fees alone, with ongoing hosting and production costs continuing to climb. Errors in the initial production risked credibility and further delays.

I took over project management entirely. I corrected the production errors, transitioned the matter to efficient in-house project management, and developed creative document management techniques when the AUSA produced well over one million additional pages across multiple supplemental productions This allowed focused review of only relevant materials without prohibitive overhead.

Results

  • Saved the client tens of thousands in vendor PM and hosting fee markup compared to continuing with the original provider.
  • Avoided additional tens of thousands in carrying/production costs through targeted management of the significant supplemental productions.
  • Enabled effective, defensible review without requiring excessive attorney time or external resources.

The firm was retained by an insurance carrier to defend a civil claim brought by a tenant against their insured, a large commercial HUD developer. The developer provided tens of thousands of emails, and had a tight defense budget. Only one attorney was available internally, making full-scale review impossible within the aggressive timeline.

I developed a realistic discovery budget estimate upfront and adhered strictly to it. I designed an expedited, targeted review workflow with strong quality control and privilege safeguards. Managed the entire process in-house to eliminate vendor overhead.

Results

  • Completed review and production of over 100,000 pages within the tight timeline and within budget.
  • Significantly reduced attorney review time through focused culling and efficient workflow.
  • Delivered a defensible production set with no scope disputes or quality issues.

The firm was defending a commercial developer in multiple litigations requiring collection from 40+ custodians across the company. Traditional collection methods risked business downtime, high data-hosting fees, and disruption to ongoing operations.

I utilized Microsoft Purview to place litigation holds and developed precise search terms to isolate and export responsive emails with zero downtime or business interruption. I managed the entire collection, processing, and production in-house.

Results

  • Eliminated disruption to business operations during collection.
  • Substantially reduced data collection, hosting, and production costs compared to traditional methods.
  • Produced a targeted, defensible set of responsive materials efficiently.
